Routine eye exams are key to maintaining eye health and detecting issues early.
What’s included in a routine eye exam?
Visual acuity test:
Checks how clearly you see at different distances
Refraction test
Determines your need for glasses or contact lenses
Slit-lamp exam:
Intraocular pressure test:
Measures the pressure inside the eye to screen for glaucoma and monitor ocular health.
Retinal exam:
When should you have an eye exam?

Children
At 6 months, 3 years, and before starting school

Adults
Every 2–3 years until 40, then every 1–2 years

At-risk patients
Those with diabetes, hypertension, or family history need more frequent exams.
It is important to detect eye conditions early as it helps prevent serious and potentially severe vision problems, allows for more effective treatment at earlier stages, and can significantly improve your quality of life.
